Tsavorite garnet of 4.40 carats from the Merelani Hills — the principal commercial source of this East African green garnet. Tsavorite occurs in commercial sizes only rarely; stones above 4 carats with vivid colour are uncommon and command a premium close to fine emerald per carat. Untreated. The colour is a saturated green that approaches the finest Colombian emerald but with significantly higher dispersion and brilliance, since tsavorite has no oil treatment and superior optical properties. The trillion cut maximises the dispersion effect and the stone shows brilliant fire at any tilt. AGL report 1108445 confirms Tanzanian origin and untreated status.
