Russian Demantoid Garnet 2.20ct

demantoid · 2.20 ct · Russia, Ural Mountains · certified by SSEF — fractional on-chain ownership on CaratShares.

Russian demantoid garnet of 2.20 carats from the historic Ural Mountains deposits — the original source described in 1855 and the only origin where the famous "horsetail" byssolite inclusions appear consistently. Modern Russian demantoid is in extreme short supply; almost all available material on the market is now Namibian or Madagascan. Untreated. The horsetail inclusions are visible under loupe magnification and are the diagnostic origin marker that elevates Ural material to "true" demantoid pricing — a tier that other green garnets cannot enter. The dispersion (0.057, higher than diamond) gives the stone its characteristic "fire." SSEF report 110512 confirms Ural origin and documents the horsetail inclusions. Russian demantoid above 2 carats with horsetails has traded $50,000-$70,000 per carat at Christie's and Sotheby's over the past five years.
