Hot-pink spinel of 4.50 carats from the legendary Kuh-i-Lal mine — the same deposit that produced the "Black Prince's Ruby" in the British Crown Jewels (which is, of course, a spinel). Modern output trickles in small parcels through Dushanbe. The marquise cut, unusual at this size, runs the long axis along the strongest colour direction — the saturated hot pink with a faint orange undertone that distinguishes Tajik material from the more purplish Burmese.
