Vietnamese Cobalt Spinel 2.80ct

spinel · 2.80 ct · Vietnam, Luc Yen · certified by Lotus — fractional on-chain ownership on CaratShares.

Cobalt-blue spinel of 2.80 carats from the Luc Yen district — the world's reference source for true cobalt-coloured spinel, now severely depleted. "Cobalt" in lab parlance refers to material whose blue derives from cobalt rather than iron, producing an unusually pure electric blue. The cushion cut and the small size are typical of the deposit; cobalt spinel rarely exceeds 3 carats with full saturation. Internally clean, untreated, with the slightly fluorescent quality that distinguishes cobalt material from regular blue spinel. Lotus report L7724 confirms cobalt-bearing Luc Yen origin. Vietnamese cobalt spinel of this saturation has consistently traded at $40,000-$50,000 per carat at specialist gem dealers and Asian auction houses.
